Why we advocate

The Shire of Murray exists to meet the needs of current and future generations through an integration of environmental protection, social enhancement and economic prosperity.

One of the ways we fulfill this purpose by being a voice for the local community on key issues.

We regularly advocate to the Western Australian and Australian governments for funding for important programs and projects that will benefit the Murray community and broader region.

With the Peel Region’s rapidly growing population, diversifying economy and increasingly popular tourism scene, Murray has the opportunity to deliver transformational outcomes that will deliver significant value and address complex socioeconomic challenges.

How we advocate

Our advocacy efforts include:

Making representations to State and Australian Government Ministers
Meeting with local Members of Parliament
Engaging with candidates participating in State and/or federal elections
Engage with local and state media
Partnering with relevant organisations and agencies
Participating in industry advocacy efforts
Making submissions to grants and funding opportunities.

Murray Health Hub

A multi-agency steering committee identifying a long-term solution to health care service provision in Murray.

Murray Library

A new district quality library where it’s more than books. A library designed as an inclusive, intergenerational community hub that reflects the evolving needs of a growing community.

Murray Aquatic and Leisure Centre

A contemporary, inclusive and multi-functional community recreational facility that serves as a vibrant place for health, wellbeing and social connection.

Pinjarra Heavy Haulage Deviation

Heavy vehicle traffic redirected away from the town centre, improving road safety, reducing congestion and supporting growth.

Pinjarra Golf Club

A fit for purpose, accessible and financially sustainable golf club, offering enhanced recreation and tourism outcomes for the wider Peel Region.

South Yunderup Bridge

New traffic bridge and cycleway, and associated roadworks.

Pinjarra Railway Conservation

Preservation and revitalisation of the Pinjarra Railway Precinct as a significant heritage and tourism destination, protecting irreplaceable railway assets while creating new opportunities for heritage tourism, economic development and community activation.

Dwellingup Community Hall

A transformed community hall, into a contemporary, accessible and flexible community hub capable of supporting community events, arts, cultural activities and visitor experiences for decades to come.

Lions Park Entry Statement

An entry statement for Pinjarra at Lions Park that meets the needs of a future activated town centre redevelopment.

Ravenswood Play Space and Toilets

An activated and accessible community recreation space that encourages longer visits, inclusive play and greater opportunities to create a walkable environment.
