Under the Freedom of Information Act 1992, many government documents are available to the public.

To access Shire records, please follow these steps:

  • Search our website to make sure the document is not already available online.
  • Contact us to ensure that the information sought is not freely/informally available.
  • Complete a Freedom of Information application form

Fees 

The minimum cost is $30. This includes two hours of research and 20 x A4 copies. 

Additional research by Shire staff – $30 per hour.

Additional copies of documents – 20c per page.

Requests for access to personal information are free. Financially disadvantaged applicants and applicants with a pensioner concession card, are eligible for a 25 per cent discount. Contact us to discuss your eligibility. 

Timeframes

We aim to make information available within 45 days and at the lowest possible cost, and whenever possible to provide documents outside of the Freedom of Information process.

Consultation 

If an application concerns the personal or business affairs of a third party, we are required to take reasonable steps to consult with the third party. When making a decision we must consider any views offered by the third party.
