Help BirdLife Australia count black-cockatoos across southwest WA as they fly into their evening roosts on Sunday 12th April at sunset. This annual citizen science survey provides essential data to estimate population trends for our threatened cockies and to help protect critical habitat.

No experience is required – full instructions are provided or you can attend one of the remaining information and training sessions. Counters are needed to cover sites from Geraldton in the north to Esperance along the south coast. Registrations close on Sunday 22nd March.

Found a roost site? We want to hear from you!

The GCC team are always keen to add new black-cockatoo roost sites into our database that can then be included in the Great Cocky Count.

A roost site is an area or site with tall trees where black-cockatoos congregate at dusk to rest overnight. If you know of a roost site in your area then please report it to greatcockycount@birdlife.org.au or in the online GCC registration form.
