Citizen of the Year Awards

About the Citizen of the Year Awards

Each year, the Shire of Murray Community Citizen of the Year Awards are held on Australia Day to recognise the significant and positive contributions of individuals and groups within the Murray community. The awards consist of four categories:

  • Community Citizen of the Year
  • Community Group of the Year
  • Youth Community Citizen of the Year
  • Senior Community Citizen of the Year

Our community is full of everyday heroes - the amazing people who make a real difference in our lives. The Citizen of the Year Awards are all about finding and celebrating these incredible individuals and groups who put in so much effort to make Murray a better place to live, work and play. Whether it's through acts of kindness, leadership, or coming up with great solutions to community challenges, these awards are our way of saying thank you to those who inspire us all.

Recognising these achievements is so important because it shows how much we appreciate the hard work of these individuals and encourages others to follow in their footsteps and get involved too. By shining a light on their efforts, we help build a stronger, more caring community.

Do you know someone who's making a big impact in our community? Now is your chance to celebrate them by nominating them for the Citizen of the Year Awards. These awards honour the outstanding people and groups in Murray who contribute to education, health, voluntary services, business, sports, arts, and more.

The awards are presented at the Shire of Murray Australian Citizen of the Year Ceremony each January, on Australia Day at the Edenvale Heritage precinct.
