Nominations are now invited for the Shire of Murray’s 2026 Volunteer Recognition Evening on Monday 18 May at the Yunderup Sport and Recreation Club.
The event is an opportunity to acknowledge the hundreds of Murray residents who give up their time through formal and informal volunteering to better their community. Your Year to Volunteer honours the contributions of volunteers and invites people across Australia to make 2026 a year of meaningful involvement.
To acknowledge the valuable contribution of longstanding volunteers within community organisations, the Shire of Murray will award a Certificate of Appreciation to those who have reached a 5-year, 10-year, 20-year, 25-year, 30-year and 40-year milestone. Nominations are also encouraged for Outstanding Contributions by a volunteer.
Shire President, Douglas McLarty said volunteer week provides an opportunity to highlight the important role of volunteers within the community and invites people not currently volunteering to give it a go.
“Volunteers are the backbone of many community organisations and their contribution to the Murray area is vast and incredibly important,” said President McLarty.
“We are grateful to have hundreds of volunteers in the Shire who dedicate their time and services to support and connect our community, and we look forward to celebrating them and thanking them for their efforts at this event,” added President McLarty.
