Have you experienced miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth, termination for medical reasons, or the loss of a baby at any stage of pregnancy? Whether your loss was recent or many years ago, you are warmly welcome.
The Pregnancy Loss Grief Café offers a warm, compassionate space where you can connect with others who understand the unique pain of pregnancy loss. This is an opportunity to share your story, listen to others, or simply sit with people who understand that grief after pregnancy loss can be complex, isolating, and often misunderstood. There is no expectation to talk, and no pressure to be at any particular stage of your grief.
Inspired by the Death Café movement, which grew from the work of Swiss sociologist and anthropologist Bernard Crettaz and was later developed into an international community initiative by Jon Underwood, this gathering also acknowledges the Grief Café concept pioneered by Perth-based Thanatologist Dr Margaret Sealy.
But as a therapist with lived experience of stillbirth and miscarriage, Darrell Collett recognised the need for a café-style gathering dedicated to the unique experience of pregnancy loss, creating space for conversations that are often overlooked or misunderstood.
Together, these influences create a space for open and honest conversations about loss, grief, remembrance, and the impact of pregnancy loss on our lives and relationships.
While the café is facilitated by a trained grief counsellor to help maintain a safe and respectful environment, it is not group therapy, counselling, or a support group. Rather, it is a community conversation where people can come together to share, reflect, listen, and connect with one another.
