Conditions for Approval

  • Applicants must own or have a legal right to occupy the land. Approval will be for the land to be used for camping for a period of up to 90 days per year.
  • The following minimum facilities are required: toilet facilities that are environmentally responsible, provision of suitable ablutions for handwashing and dishwashing and potable water and lighting.

Compliance issues

The general expectation is for:

  1. Camping area is to be located as far away from roads and neighbouring dwellings as practicable.
  2. Provide access to toilet, bathroom, cooking and clothes washing facilities.
  3. Fire extinguisher and fire blanket to be provided near area(s) used for sleeping.
  4. Ensure all occupants are aware of fire safety rules, with no camp fires, except during the 'open burning period'.
  5. Persons are to camp inside a shed, with any personal effects either kept inside the shed or screened by the shed.
  6. Although less preferred to a shed, a caravan may be used for camping, provided that it is kept within a shed, or alternatively adequately screened so as not to be easily visible from the road, and if possible other properties.
  7. Tents are not permitted without express approval.
  8. Property to be maintained in a neat and tidy condition.
  9. Noise to be limited to levels outlined in the Noise Regulations. Generators are not allowed without permission.
  10. Lighting is to be managed so as not to cause a nuisance to neighbours or traffic.
  11. Any food to be stored in vermin-proof containers.
  12. Measures to be taken to minimise the creation of air-borne dust.
  13. Measure taken generally to prevent causing a nuisance of any kind.
  14. Camping is not to unduly affect the amenity of the area, or detrimentally affect the health, safety and wellbeing of people.
