Significant accessibility upgrades have been completed at the Pinjarra Civic Centre and the Lesser Hall, enhancing access, safety and usability for all community members.
The project focused on improving the entrances to both facilities and upgrading the surrounding path networks to ensure they are more inclusive and easier to navigate. The works included demolition of outdated infrastructure, reconstruction of entry pathways, installation of smoother and more accessible surfaces, and improvements designed to support better mobility for people of all ages and abilities.
Shire President Douglas McLarty said the project is a meaningful investment in the long-term accessibility and functionality of key community spaces.
“These improvements reflect Council’s commitment to creating public facilities that are welcoming, inclusive and safe for everybody,” said Mr McLarty.
“We recognise how important these buildings are to residents, community groups and service providers, and we’re delighted to deliver upgrades that support better access for people with prams, mobility aids, wheelchairs and other accessibility needs. We also thank the community for their cooperation during the construction period and hope these enhancements make a positive difference to everyone who visits or uses these spaces,” added Mr McLarty.
Alcoa Pinjarra Alumina Refinery Manager Jodie Giraudo said co-funding this project demonstrated the company’s continued commitment to community inclusion and safety.
“The Civic Centre and Lesser Hall accessibility upgrades are an important step towards ensuring community members of all-abilities are able to gather, connect and participate in community life,” said Ms Giraudo
The Civic Centre and Lesser Hall are now accessible via the upgraded front entrances, with the new pathways open for use.
This project was funded by the Shire of Murray and Alcoa.
