Healthy Habitats

Applications are now open for the Healthy Habitats program. The program supports Rural, Special Rural and other Rural Residential landholders to increase, create and protect native vegetation, wetlands, threatened ecological communities and wildlife habitat on private property, contributing to stronger biodiversity outcomes and increased canopy cover across the Murray region.

Through the Healthy Habitats Program, landholders receive a site visit and ecological assessment with tailored management advice, assistance with funding, and ongoing bushland management support.

Grant funding is available until funds are exhausted. Apply for a minimum of $100 up to a maximum of $1,000 for approved materials.

Eligible activities include:

  • Fencing and access control,
  • Weed and animal pest control
  • Revegetation of degraded areas
  • Revegetation to support habitats
  • Installation of habitat boxes or tubes and more

The program aims to protect threatened flora and fauna species, safeguard significant habitat and nesting hollows for threatened species such as Black Cockatoos, increase urban canopy, improve vegetation condition and species diversity, and protect and rehabilitate natural areas on private land.

Please read the guidelines before applying.

This project is supported by funding from the Western Australian Government’s State NRM Program.

Waterwise native plant giveaway - Black cockatoo conservation

REGISTRATIONS WILL OPEN AT 10AM 13 APRIL 2026.

The giveaway caters to all types of landowners and offers a selection of native groundcovers, small and medium shrubs, and trees.

Seedling species selected for this year’s giveaway are focused on providing food and habitat for our threatened black cockatoo species.

Native plants are ideal for WA gardens as they establish quickly and once established consume much less water than non-native species.

Packs that will be available are a tree pack, a shrub pack or a mixed tree and shrub pack.

Important things to note:

  • Registrations are essential as there is a limited supply of plants.
  • This is open to Shire of Murray residents only.
  • ID and proof of address is required to pick up the plants.
  • One pack of plants is allowed per household.
  • There will be no holds on seedlings

Packs will be available for collection on Saturday, 27 June between 9am and 11am only from the Shire Administration Office Carpark.

This giveaway is proudly co-funded by Water Corporation’s Waterwise Greening Scheme and forms part of our ambition for Murray to be a leading waterwise community.

This giveaway is supported by funding from the Western Australian Government's State NRM Program.
