Over 80 Murray children joined thousands of eager participants across the country, for the 2019 National Simultaneous Storytime event on Wednesday 22 May.
Hosted by Murray Library, the children together with their teachers, parents and drummers from Circle of Connection, gathered at Pinjarra Lesser Hall for the reading of Alpacas with Maracas written by Matt Cosgrove.
An annual campaign, National Simultaneous Storytime run by the Australian Library and Information Association is a popular, well-supported inclusion on the Murray Library calendar, with Library officers eager to share the joy of reading with the district’s children.
The initiative aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children’s book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year Six.
Murray Library’s event portfolio includes a number of one-off and regular events for infants through to seniors.
Regular adult programs include Get Appy and Book Club, while Mums and their tots enjoy Rhyme Time and two to five year old Storytime.
