Notice is hereby given that the Western Australian Planning Commission has approved the Southern Palusplain Strategy.
This has been a long-awaited outcome following considerable and lengthy negotiations with the Department over a 10-year timeframe. The process comprised extensive engagement with key stakeholders.
A key component of the Strategy is the inclusion of an Equine Living Precinct. The recognition of the Precinct will allow a new zone to be created in the Town Planning Scheme to accommodate larger Rural Small Holding lots of between four to 10 hectares, with land use and nutrient management controls for keeping of horses. This will enable increased activation of the Murray Regional Equestrian Centre in Coolup and compliment the Peel Alliance Group’s endeavours to maximise growth opportunities in the equine industry across the Peel region.
The outsomes and recommendations contained in the Southern Palusplain Strategy can now be incorporated into Council's new Local Planning Scheme and Local Planning Strategy which are both currently under review.
Coolup landowners in the affected locality have been notified in writing regarding the new zoning proposals and timelines for implementation.
