The project has delivered a much-needed upgrade, increasing the appeal of Sandy Cove Park for residents and visitors.

The park upgrade maximises its wharf location, with improved pathways and connectivity to nearby restaurants, shops, sports club and residences.

Families will be able to linger longer and local businesses will enjoy increased visitation.

Following on from community consultation and council endorsement of the Masterplan in April 2021, design and procurement was undertaken during mid-2021. Construction during the second half of 2021 saw Stage 1 of the project completed in time for the summer season.

Wharf Cove nearby was also upgraded to provide new public jetties and a swim beach area next to Sandy Cove Park. A stage 2 upgrade is also in the work for 2023 following the successful sourcing of funding.

The upgrade includes:

Stage 1 – Completed end December 2021

New play equipment including swings, slides, sand play and a dinghy boat for physical and imaginative play
Seating and picnic tables
Double, accessible electric barbeque
A small-event space for weddings, birthdays and other gatherings, with shelter and seating
Landscaping including new and established trees and irrigation upgrade
New paths and steps

Stage 2 – 2022

Installation of infrastructure – drink fountain, lighting to path and to barbecue
Landscaping including turf and planting
Shade sails over the play space – for improved shade in addition to the existing mature trees
Timeline:
Shade sails designed and ordered – July - September 2022
Installation of shade sails – expected late 2022 to early 2023.
