Dwellingup Named among Top Tourism Towns

Whether it's the adventure filled trails or the spectacular scenery, Dwellingup has cemented its position as an absolute must visit destination in Western Australia.

One of WA’s most iconic destinations and home to WA’s premier trails town, Dwellingup has been announced a finalist in the 2021 GWN Top Small Tourism Town Awards.

Shire of Murray Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Dean Unsworth said it was an honour for the popular trails town to be recognised in the prestigious awards.

"It's exciting and encouraging that Dwellingup has been acknowledged as a 2021 GWN Top Tourism Town Awards Finalist among the best in the state," said Mr Unsworth.

"Over the last twelve months especially, Dwellingup has relentlessly focused, adapted and developed on its tourism offerings, to position as one of Australia’s top trail towns.”

The newly opened $2.59 million Dwellingup Trails and Visitor Centre, along with the showcase of an inspiring tourism brand and immersive messaging of this adventurous destination, has positioned Dwellingup centre stage amongst the tourism industry over the last year.

"Dwellingup is a place that perfectly characterises the adventure, relaxation, heritage and charm of country life. You feel as though you are a world away, even though it’s located just over an hour’s drive from Perth. It's an honour for Dwellingup to be recognised for all it has to offer," said Mr Unsworth.

"It’s been amazing to see growing numbers of visitors experiencing Dwellingup and enjoying its array of offerings. You can feel the buzz amongst the region.”

The Top Tourism Town Awards recognise some of the country's best destinations while also promoting the local tourism industry. Dwellingup has been named a finalist in the 2021 Awards, alongside 16 other towns including Coral Bay, Denham and Kalgoorlie. Nearby Pinjarra has also been announced a finalist in the Top Tourism Town Award category with a population of over 5,000.

"After the challenges for tourism over the last twelve months, these tourism awards are now more important than ever," Mr Unsworth said.

"It's a great time to recognise and celebrate the people and communities behind Western Australia's outstanding tourism destinations, who continue to work tirelessly, adapt and grow."

The winning destinations of each state will also go into the national competition to win title of Australia’s Top Tourism Town and Small Tourism Town. This is the first time a nation-wide competition has followed the state’s awards.

The WA winners will be announced at the 2021 Perth Airport WA Regional Tourism Conference Dinner in Geraldton on Tuesday, May 4, 2021.
