Members of the public have the right to access government documents. This right is regulated under the Freedom of Information Act 1992, applies to local government records and is subject to some limitations.

We aim to make information available promptly and at the lowest possible cost, and whenever possible to provide documents outside of the Freedom of Information process.

Before Making a Freedom of Information Application

  1. Search the site to ensure the document is not already available online
  2. Contact our Freedom of Information Coordinator to ensure that the information sought is not freely/informally available:

Step 1.Complete the Application Form

Step 2.Prepare Payment

Requests for access to personal information are free.

Financially disadvantaged applicants and applicants with a pensioner concession card, are eligible for a 25% fee reduction. 

Fee due with Application:

  • Minimum fee providing two (2) hours research and 20 x A4 copies: $30.00

Additional Charges:

  • Additional Research Clerical per Hour of Staff Time: $30.00
  • Additional Document Copies per A4 Page: $0.20

You will be notified if your application attracts additional fees, prior to the fees being incurred.

Cash, card or cheque accepted.

Step 2.Payment of the Fee

Requests for access to personal information are free.

For other requests, we will process your application and issue an invoice for the payment of the fee. This can be paid online or in person at the Shire’s Administration Office.

If an application concerns the personal or business affairs of a third party, we are required to take reasonable steps to consult with the third party. When making a decision we must take into account any views offered by the third party.

Freedom of Information requests will be resolved within 45 days.
