Building Approval Certificate Application

Step 1.Download an Application Form

A building approval certificate (BA13) confirms that the building has been assessed by a registered building surveyor for compliance and that a certificate of building compliance has been issued.

Reasons to apply for a building approval certificate:

  1. To obtain retrospective approval for unauthorised building work associated with a Class 1 or Class 10 building or structure
  2. To confirm compliance with the applicable building standards for a building with any classification with existing authorisation which previously did not require an approval to occupy

Step 2.Prepare Your Supporting Documents

Your BA13 application must be accompanied by:

  • A certificate of building compliance (BA18) signed by a building surveyor
  • Copies of all plans and specifications specified on the certificate of building compliance
  • Written evidence of the following as relevant to the building or structure:
    • An approval required under the Health Act 1911 section 107(2)(a) or (b)
    • An approval required under the Planning and Development Act 2005
    • An approval required under the Health (Aquatic Facilities) Regulations 2007 Part 2 Division 1
    • An approval required under the Local Government (Uniform Local Provisions) Regulations 1996 regulation 12(2)
  • Where applicable, evidence of consent(s) from each affected owner where work encroaches onto or adversely impacts other land
  • Payment of fee and levy (if applicable).

Step 3.Submit Your Application to Us

Bring along the:

  • Completed application form and checklist
  • Supporting documents
  • Payment - cash, card, cheque and money orders are accepted

By Email:

Email your application to mailbag@murray.wa.gov.au, including the:

  1. Completed application form and checklist
  2. Supporting documents
  3. Payment – once your application has been registered we will contact you to arrange payment.

By Post:

Post your documents to PO Box 21, Pinjarra WA 6208.

Please ensure you include the:

  • Completed application form and checklist
  • Supporting documents
  • Preferred payment option - cheque or money orders are accepted

Step 4.Processing

We determine certified applications in 10 working days. If additional information is required we will contact you and continue to process your application once the information is received.
