How Your Rates are Calculated
The Shire of Murray applies a Differential Rating System. All land except land that is exempt, is rated according to its Gross Rental Value (GRV) or Unimproved Value. GRV is used for land within townsites and other land as approved by the Minister for Local Government. UV is used for the remaining land within the Shire.
Council has determined rates on the basis of raising the revenue to meet the deficiency between the total estimated expenditure proposed in the budget and the estimated revenue to be received from all sources other than rates. As required under the Local Government Act 1995, Council advertised its intended rating structure in the West Australian newspaper on Friday 1st August 2008, requesting submissions from ratepayers prior to the adoption of the Budget. This year an average 8% levied income rate increase has been imposed. Council has endeavoured to fairly distribute its rate burden throughout its district by way of differential rating including adopting a minimum rate for each differential rating category
A concession of $6 per rate assessment has been applied to the Strata Titled Caravan Park located within the district under Section 6.47 of the Local Government Act 1995 to offset the site fees charges under the Caravan Parks and Camping Grounds Amended Regulations 1999.
