PREMIER’S AUSTRALIA DAY ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP AWARDS 2010
The Premiers Australia Day Active Citizenship Awards provide an opportunity for Local Government Authorities to recognize individuals and groups making outstanding contributions to their local community through their inspiring actions and dedicated service.  The recognition of these people is integral in fostering community pride and positive Australian characteristics.

The Shire of Murray invites nominations for the awards from community groups and private citizens.  The three awards are as follows:

 Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship Award
 Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship Award for a person under 25 years
 Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship Award for a community group or event.

The nomination period closes on Friday, 27 November 2009.  Nomination forms are available at the Shire’s Administration building, Alcoa-Murray Public Library or can be downloaded from the ‘awards’ section at the Australia Day Council of WA website – www.ausdaywa.com.au.

ROGER MAY MUSEUM
Roger May Machinery Museum located in the picturesque location of Edenvale is currently seeking new volunteers to assist with restoration, maintenance works and visitor enquiries.  If you have a passion in this field please contact Trevor Tapper on 9582 9648. 

WEBSITE FOR VICTIMS OF CRIME
In recognition of the need for victims of crime in WA to have access to better information, a dedicated website for victims of crime was launched by Hon Christian Porter MLA, Attornery General; Minister for Corrective Services, on 24 March 2009.

This website provide victims of crime with detailed information about their entitlements and how to access a wide range of assistance such as counselling and support services.  It also helps victims better understand the criminal justice system including police and court processes.

The site provides an up-to-date resource on a range of other issues affecting victims of crime including safety and protection, victim impact statements, criminal injuries compensation, dealing with the media and the Victim Notification Register.  It also contains information about support for children who become victims or witnesses to a crime.

HOTHAM WAY TOURIST ROUTE
The new Hotham Way Tourist Route was launched on Saturday, 12 September 2009.  The route runs from Pinjarra to Pingelly and travels through the tranquil towns of Dwellingup, Boddington and Wandering.  The Hotham Way route travels a total distance of 160km and is a great way to visit many of the local wineries, olive groves and artisans.  The Hotham Way is full of exciting adventures.
