Dwellingup History & Visitor Information Centre

The town of Dwellingup is just 1 hour south of Perth and is nestled in the Jarrah Forests of the Darling Escarpment at a height of 864 feet above sea level. Dwellingup is a popular camping destination and as the home of Lane Pool Reserve on the Murray River, the area offers a variety of adventure activities and tranquil settings.

Visitors to Dwellingup have a wide range of accommodation and dining facilities to chose from, with many attractions and activities available such as its 60 metre long, 11 metre wide tree walk or a leisurely trip into the forest on the heritage steam train. Dwellingup is the ultimate destination for a getaway weekend.

Dwellingup History and Visitors Information Centre is located in Marrinup Street, Dwellingup and is made of local timber, the centre also houses a unique history collection of the Dwellingup area and old Mills Towns. The centre is open daily and the staff will be happy to offer you assistance on your visit to beautiful Dwellingup.

Some of Dwellingup's attractions include:

  • Canoe a section of the Murray River in Lane Poole Reserve - suitable for novice or proficient paddlers.  Equipment is available for hire in Dwellingup.
  • Hop aboard a steam train ride through peaceful hills and forest scenery.
  • Walk a section of the long distance Bibbulmun Track, starting or ending in Dwellingup.  Maps and tour packages available from the Visitors Centre, Friends of the Bibbulmun Track or CALM offices in the region.  Further information can be obtained from the Bibbulmun Track website www.bibbulmuntrack.org.au.
  • Cycle a section on the long distance Munda Biddi Trail, starting or ending in Dwellingup.  Maps are available at the Visitors Centre or by calling 0422 112 229, on the website www.mundabiddi.org.au or CALM.
  • 4WD along some of Western Australia's best Jarrah forests, magnificent views, historic farmhouses and original settlers' trestle bridges.

Keep an eye on the Events Calendar for stalls and activities that regularly occur in Dwellingup including the Dwellingup Log Chop held in February of each year.
