The Holyoake Hike will take you along part of the Bibbulmun Track, through working orchards to the Holyoake townsite. Holyoake was originally set up the South West Timber Hewers Cooperative Society, with all members and townsite shareholders and equal.
They were known as the ‘Teddy Bears’ after a chance meeting with US President Teddy Roosevelt in Sth Africa by Mill Manager Herbert Jackman, who was there getting orders for the Hewers jarrah railway sleepers.
You will see the remains of the mill, cottages and the school site. Following the trail you will pass what was once the Holyoake sports oval, it is gravel today and was gravel then, hope they had lots of band-aids.
