Native fish such as freshwater cobbler and small galaxid minnows, pygmy perch nightfish and lampreys are found in southern waters, many descended from marine species which adapted to brackish and fresh water.
Their environment is fragile, with water quality affected by the health of surrounding forests.

Daily bag limit of 40 per licensed fisher.
