An application for $700,000 of grant funding will be submitted by the Shire of Murray to the Department of Sport and Recreation to fund the construction of a new clubhouse at Sir Ross McLarty Sporting Precinct following a resolution of Council this week.
The Shire will present the project as a community priority for monies from the Department of Sport and Recreation’s Forward Planning Grant Program.
Shire of Murray’s Chief Executive Officer Dean Unsworth said the funding program is for projects valued over $500,000, and we believe the new clubhouse will be beneficial to the community.
“We envisage the clubrooms will also provide a venue for larger functions within the Shire, and will also assist to increase membership for the club and encourage physical activity amongst residents,” Mr Unsworth said.
Shire staff have been working with the club to develop planning documents over the last two years, with Council allocating over $700,000 from their own Country Local Government Funds.
“Funding applications will also be forwarded to Lotterywest, the Department of Veteran Affairs and Regional Development Australia for additional funding,” Mr Unsworth said.
