The Shire of Murray has endorsed a Murray River Trail Plan as a framework for planning, development and management of a trail from Pinjarra to Ravenswood
Subject to funding, the Murray River Trail would be 20 kilometres long and capitalise on the Shire’s aesthetic, environmental and cultural attributes.
Shire President Wally Barrett said access across private rural property from Murray Bend through to Murray River Country Estate is currently not possible, and as the Shire grows, access in these areas will become increasingly difficult.
“The proposed project would be rolled out over four stages, with the first stage involving maintenance and upgrade to existing footpaths within Pinjarra and the construction of a new trail in and around Murray River Country Estate,” Cr Barrett said.
The remaining three stages would see the upgrade of footpaths between Ravenswood and Murray Bridge, the development of loop trails in and around Murray River Country Estate and the Redcliffe Barn area, with Stage four connecting trail developments in Pinjarra and Ravenswood with new trails developed through rural land in Ravenswood.
“We are committed to growing a healthy community, and the creation of these sorts of trails provide a venue for walking, cycling and running, encouraging more regular physical activity for residents and visitors,” Cr Barrett said.
Development of the Murray River Trail Plan has been made possible through a Lotterywest Trails grant.
