The Declaration was considered at the Shire’s November meeting with a report to Council highlighting the impact climate change will have onSouth Western Australiaover the coming years.
Shire President Wally Barrett said the Shire of Murray is committed to nurturing the local environment, and is a member of the climate change group the Peron Naturaliste Partnership.

Cr Barrett said.
Endorsing the Declaration will see the Shire of Murray commit to setting emission reduction targets and working with higher levels of Government to implement key actions and activities for climate change management at a local level.
“Over the coming years, the Shire will develop an internal Climate Change Action Plan to create climate change actions across all of our functions.”
“Our commitment to this area will also see the Shire work with local business and residents to adapt to the impacts of climate change and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions,”
Cr Barrett said.
The Shire plans to prepare an environmental strategy next financial year which will incorporate climate change actions.
