Murray Budget Delivers Major Projects
Main content:
Murray will allocate $2.47 million to its local road network, $1.8 million to maintenance and enhancement works for parks and gardens, and deliver a number of priority projects following the endorsement of their 2011-2012 Budget during the week.
An 8.7% rate increase has been approved for properties throughout the Shire, with the increase amount dependent upon the value of the rateable property. The rate increase is expected to keep the Shire of Murray financially stable, whilst funding major infrastructure projects and expanding Council’s services.
Shire President Noel Nancarrow said the Shire’s budget was a comprehensive one, incorporating funding to maintain what exists and also looking to the future, identifying areas for service enhancements.
“This year’s Budget also focuses on our environmental responsibility, with monies allocated for a Biodiversity Strategy in addition to $20,000 for Peel Harvey Catchment Council for future environmental projects,” Cr Nancarrow said.
The Shire of Murray has remained one of the top ten fastest growing localities in the nation for the second consecutive year, with the Budget part funding many feasibility studies to investigate proposed facilities and services.
“This year we will embark on community consultation in relation to the Pinjarra Town Centre Growth Strategy, work with Pinjarra Bowling and Recreation Club to source funding for a state of the art community facility.”
“Our waterways are a major feature of our enviable lifestyle, and boating enthusiasts will enjoy new facilities at Wharf Cove and Sandy Cove, with enhancements to facilities at Rivergum Esplanade and Tatham Road Jetty,” Cr Nancarrow.
