Retailers within Pinjarra town centre will be able to trade extended hours during the month of December following approval from the Department of Commerce and the endorsement of Council during the week.
The matter was considered following a request from Pinjarra Junction Shopping Centre with retailers in the area free to trade until 9pm on weeknights from 2 to 23 December and each Sunday during the month.
Shire of Murray’s Chief Executive OfficerDean Unsworthsaid the December trading hours have in the past been enjoyed by residents and visitors in the lead up to Christmas, and provides a financial boost to the local business community.
“Extended hours during the peak time of December will mean financial gain for locally employed residents, and often entices shoppers from outside the district,” Mr Unsworth said.
The Shire is currently considering the separate matter of seven day trading, recently consulting with the community with a report expected at the December Council meeting.
“Extended trading hours during December has been endorsed by the Council for the last five years in a bid to help the local economy during a peak shopping period,” Mr Unsworth said.
