Cleaning Crusaders Wanted
Friends of the Rivers, Peel in partnership with the Shire of Murray and Alcoa Australia are seeking volunteers for Clean Up Australia Day with registrations at Young Road launching ramp, South Yunderup from 7:45am, with the clean up to continue through to 12 noon on Sunday 4 March
During last year’s cleanup local residents removed significant amounts of litter and rubbish from the Murray River, Serpentine River, Delta Island sand surrounding foreshore.
Shire of Murray’s Shire President Wally Barrett said volunteers are needed for this important cause, to clean up the local waterways and foreshores.
“Whilst I appreciate it is your Sunday morning, one day of clean up can make all the difference to our community,” Cr Barrett said.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own hat, sunscreen, water bottle, and closed shoes or boots (no thongs).
“To assist the overall cleanup campaign, we are keen to attract residents with access to trailers and boats to increase the amount of rubbish we can dispose of,” Cr Barrett said.
A sausage sizzle lunch and drink will be provided for all volunteers at Pelican Road Park, South Yunderup. Prior notice of your attendance on the day is preferred for catering purposes. Please phone Colin Elton of Friends of the Rivers, Peel on 9537 7809 or colmagselton@westnet.com.au.
