Murray Delivers Bushfire Safety Message
Main content:
Bushfire behaviour, when to evacuate early and levels of personal risk to property are just some of the items which will be presented at an upcoming Bushfire Safety Course for Murray residents.
The workshops come in the wake of the Fire and Emergency Services Authority’s Kelty Report which details mistakes made during the Roleystone fires; and includes suggestions for prevention.
Residents are being encouraged to contact the Shire to register their interest in the first instance, with the workshops likely to be held in late September and October, with an attendance fee of $20 per head.
Shire of Murray’s Chief Executive Officer said the workshops have been designed with the Murray community and its environment in mind, equipping residents with the necessary tools to act should be a bush fire hit.
“The workshops are likely to be held in West Murray, Coolup, North Dandalup and Dwellingup, however this will depend on those registering an interest and where they reside,” Mr Unsworth said.
Facilitator Rohan Carboon of Bushfire Safety Consulting established his business after lessons learned from the 2007 Dwellingup bush fires, and will now return to the community to share his knowledge and expertise.
Mr Carboon is a trained firefighter and has held roles in bushfire prevention across the nation, including Victoria, the Northern Territory and Western Australia.
“Perhaps the most beneficial feature of the workshops is that residents will leave with a Bushfire Survival Plan which will maximise their level of preparation leading into the coming bushfire
season,” Mr Unsworth said.
To register your interest, please contact the Shire of Murray on 9531 7704 or email mailbag@murray.wa.gov.au.
