Pinjarra, a historic town (c1834), is the central hub of the Shire of Murray and it boasts many significant heritage sites such as Edenvale which was the grand home of former WA Premier Sir Ross McLarty.
In 1974, an alumina refinery was established by Alcoa Australia Ltd, causing a boost in the population of Pinjarra.
The beautiful Murray River flows all year throughout the Shire and starts from the picturesque hills in Dwellingup, through the heritage town of Pinjarra, then to peaceful Ravenswood and into the Yunderup delta, where it meanders through an extensive canal system and into the water playground of the Harvey/Peel Estuary. There is a large variety of community services and businesses in Pinjarra which makes this town a thriving community.
